Designjunction (24 – 27 September)

This is a great design event that happens in London and it is annually held during London Design Festival, Salone del Mobile, Milan and NYCxDesign in New York. The two venues where this event is held are stunning, one is a neoclassical landmark, Victoria House Bloomsbury and another is The College.

Victoria House will be a trendy spot because it is set up to be a designjunction shopping with 35 design led pop-up shops and premium brands during the London Design Festival.

Brixton Design Trail

Admire installations, learn about crafts and shop for beautifully designed products with the help of Brixton Design Trail, a collection of events taking place as part of London Design Festival.

A Bullet from a Shooting Star

This massive steel sculpture was commissioned by the London Design Festival in collaboration with Greenwich Peninsula, and references the industrial history of the site it will be poking out of. British sculptor Alex Chinneck’s 35-metre tall inverted electricity pylon weighs 15 tons, and will be visible from North Greenwich station, the Thames Clipper, the Emirates Airline cable car, Canary Wharf and planes flying to and from City Airport.

Resonance: Making, Metal and Place

Ever wondered what 100,000 big white balloons would look like? That’s what French artist Charles Pétillon has put together to form Heartbeat, his first public art installation, which fills the South Hall of the Grade II-listed Victorian Market Building. Part of the London Design Festival, Pétillon’s balloons are illuminated with a gently pulsing white light, hence the title of the work.

RIBA Regent Street Windows Project

The windows of fifteen of Regent Street’s top retailers will look even more splendid than usual this September as the Royal Institute of British Architects fill them with striking installations for the world to admire.

Somerset House

One of the key venues in this year’s London Design Festival, Somerset House is hosting a number of free events. The major exhibition is in the West Wing: for 10 Designers, ten international designers and brands (Nendo, Faye Toogood and Ross Lovegrove among them) will showcase collaborative installation rooms. An interactive virtual reality installation called Odyssey promises to challenge your understanding of perception. There is the excitement of a global electronic project launch too: Samsung have built a gadget designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

Atelier Van Lieshout Bronze

Atelier Van Lieshout’s solo show ‘Bronze’ includes sculptures covering themes such as social ties and the impact of the industrial revolution on our lives. The choice of material takes us to the ‘Bronze Age’, sending us to the tribal past of our modern society, telling the story of humanity.

“London and Thereabouts” by Janine Kilroe

Absolute Abode presents an exhibition of Janine Kilroe’s fine art photography, in which colour is reintroduced by hand to black and white images. Absolute Abode combines an interior design practice, café and lifestyle emporium. It is one of the London Evening Standard’s ‘Top 10 Design Cafes’.

London Design Festival at the V&A
Shoes: Pleasure and Pain

This exhibition looks at the extremes of footwear from around the globe, presenting around 200 pairs of shoes ranging from a sandal decorated in pure gold leaf originating from ancient Egypt to the most elaborate designs by contemporary makers.

London Design Festival at the V&A
Exhibition Road Project display

The Exhibition Road Building Project is the largest architectural intervention undertaken in the last 100 years of the V&A’s history. This display uses models, sketches and mock ups to explore the project, including the design competition, development of AL_A’s winning scheme, and the build itself.
