The best events during Milan Design Week 2015

Milan Design Week begins next week (8th of April) so the countdown is almost over. My Design Week made a list of the best events that you have to go on this year’s edition of Salone del Mobile – it’s a furniture fair and one of the most important trade shows in this area. It will take place from the 14th of April until the 19th of April.

Milan, in this time of year, brings together all the extravaganza of design. See for yourself:

1 Designjunction edit Milan
This year, Designjunction edit Milan takes over three floors of Casa dell’Opera Nazionale Balilla, a former school building and theatre originally built in the 1930s. 40 brands will be on that space and they are mostly British. Some of the on trend design brands that will be at Casa dell’Opera Nazionale are Tom Dixon, Case Furniture, Beyond Object, Form Us With Love and Modus. This event is part of a big role of events that will happen in the San Babila Design, a new and on trend destination where you can find 30 furniture and fashion showrooms, all within walking distance of each other. Via Pietro Mascagni, April 15 to 19.

2 Housewarming, presented by Airbnb and Fabrica
this is an experimental installation on view at Palazzo Crespi, that will open to the public for the first time and it involves 19 designers that were invited to interpret the concept of welcoming guests. The goal is for the visitors to leave with a sense of belonging to this Milanese home. Corso Venezia 20, April 14 to 17.

3 Spheres. Perspectives in Precision & Poetry for BMW designed by Alfredo Häberli

A collaboration between BMW Design and Zurich designers Alfredo Häberli who resulted on a design reconstruction of the car as multi-layered interpretation of the BMW Design leitmotif “Precision and Poetry”. Who knows? Maybe same day the car will hit the road! The designer did an entirely new object instead of a car, something organic in shape, it looks nothing like the automobile as we know it today. Via Amatore Sciesa 3, April 14 to 19.

4-The Rational and Emotional Worlds, presented Hi-Macs and Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders always involves big drama, so this year he teamed up with LG Hausys (inventor of Hi-Macs solid surfacing). There will be two contrasting spaces to the exhibit: a “rational zone” that is functional and visually clean; and an “emotional zone” that will be more mysterious, poetic, and entirely covered in the Wanders’ Blooming Universe pattern. Superstudio Più, Temporary Museum for New Design, April 14 to 19.

5- Moooi‘s Unexpected Welcome

Moooi usually blows up our minds at Milan Design Week and on this edition they will have a 1,700-square-metre installation inside via Savona 56. In terms of products Moooi will showcase a new line of carpets, and the Statistocrat lamp by Atelier Van Lieshout. Also on view are new pieces by Bas Kosters, Bertjan Pot, Broersen en Lukacs, Christian Lacroix, Front and Jurgen Bey. Wanders himself is presenting a giant rocking unicorn, Arion, made of solid wood and adorned with white embroidered leather. On view at via Savona 56, April 13 to 19.

6- Ventura Lambrate

Ventura Lambrate is curated by a Dutch agency Organisation in Design, it is a sprawling event, with 176 exhibitions filling warehouse after warehouse with projects and prototypes by mostly young designers, many of whom are still students attending various design academies from across Europe. You will need, at least, half a day to get through it all and there you will find a variety of things, from urban food farms, wi-fi hotspots from orchestrated exhibits. Events are located in the Lambrate district, in the northeast part of Milan, April 14 to 19.

7- Nendo works 2014-2015
