Tom dixon extends his iconic furniture family with the ‘wingback’ sofa. the two-seater piece draws its appearances from the lounge of a 17th-century gentleman’s club, given a few 21st-century tweaks. the ‘wingback’ sofa joins the ‘wingback’ collection that includes an armchair, dining chair and ottoman; and has been given a radically re-engineered shape that expresses a bolder shape, with more robust cantilevering. the shell is formed from a polyurethane foam with additional lumbar supports to ensure comfort, and is upholstered in a number of kvadrat fabrics. the base is outfitted with four legs, available in either oak wood or copper plated steel. tom dixon introduces the ‘wingback sofa’ during london design festival 2015.

The 17th century english archetype is re-thought and updated for the 21st century with the ‘wingback’ chair. the extravagant and fully upholstered form has been teased to give it quite a rakish silhouette, the ergonomics have been adjusted for more comfort, and the frame has been re-tooled for industrial production. the result is a sculptural piece that is ideal for members club, the hotel lobby or the parlour. chair legs are made of oak wood or copper plated steel.

The ‘wingback’ dining chair fuses the 17th century archetypal wingback with its smaller sibling — the 18th century balloon back. the resulting design is a refined hybrid that has been slimmed down to function us an ultra-comfortable dining chair fit for the grandest banquets or as an occasional chair for the fireplace of your members club.

The ‘wingback’ ottoman is a fully upholstered footstool, influenced by the traditional 18th century british gentleman’s chair. designed to be used with the ‘wingback’ chair to add a ludicrous level of comfort, but expressive enough to be a standalone occasional. the base comes with four legs made of oak wood or copper plated steel.
