Downtown Design Dubai Highlights
Last year’s edition of Downtown Design Dubai was the first international design trade event held in the Middle East – this year we expect an even better trade show. (check out the best of the first edition of Downtown Design Dubai). From tomorrow to Friday, Dubai will be the stage of new and exciting product launches and talks in partnership with Dubai Design District. Here is a bit of what you can expect.
Downtown Design, the Middle East’s platform for original design, opens its door for the second time from 28 – 31 October, 2014 to give quality-driven brands access to the rapidly growing market of the gulf region.
– Groundbreaking Technology – Royal College of Art (RCA) will be presenting the three top student projects that are among today’s most promising technological breakthroughs. Each having the potential to revolutionize the design industry while having transferable applications into the medical and bio-physics fields.
“Today, we are experiencing the integration of technology with design to produce breakthroughs that have far-reaching implications. Even within traditional design disciplines, we are far more attuned to interconnectivity. In my field, for example, interior design influences and communicates with the architectural exterior of space in a way that is far more meaningful than ever before,” – said Ab Rogers, head of the Interior Design Programme at RCA
– Celebration of Arab Talent – an exhibition dedicated to the Middle East’s most talented Arab designers. Curated by Lamia Bousnina Ben Ayed, you’ll be able to see under the same room works from Egypt, KSA, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iran and Tunisia – where designers will present their personal reinterpretations of Arabic aesthetics.
– Design talks: one of the highlights of this event. Don’t miss out on Designing the Future, Living in Nature by designer Aldo Cibic, who will be presenting the CibicWorkshop. We also recommend The Importance of Original Design by journalist Caroline Roux Friday at 3 pm. Right afterwards, The Home of Tomorrow by Anders Larsen.
– Exhibitors: only selected brands exhibit at Downtown Desgin. Among them De Castelli, Fritz Hansen, Lasvit, Musk and Amber and Vitra.
