A Designer’s view on Maison et Objet Paris
Even though the January edition is the trend setter, Maison et Objet September 2014 will inspire the trends for next year. When Maison et Objet is visited by over 80 000 visitors from all over the world, My Design Week asked two interior designers about what brings them to Paris for this event. Mabel Muijres from Mabella Artisans in the Netherlands and Sylvie Louagie in Belgium have shared their thoughts with us.
- What you expect from this edition of Maison et Objet?
Mabel Muijres: I Always except to be inspired.
Sylvie Louagie: We like to discover new things, new styles, new brands, new contacts,…
- How does visiting Maison and Paris will influence your future choices?
Mabel Muijres: It does influence my choice in the sense that I use it as a source. I take pictures of all products I like and keep it in a folder. When I have a project I scroll through to find products I can use for a project.
Sylvie Louagie: Discovering new brands and objects is giving us fresh inspiration for our future projects.
- What you are looking for in terms of Design/ How you selected the brands to work with?
Mabel Muijres: And I always look for small little new brands or Countries that represent their artisans. I solely work with brands I like visually, I tend to stay with brands that also give service and are nice people.
Sylvie Louagie: We are Always looking for interesting styles and new influences. It’s important to know what’s happening in the world of design. We are looking for objects for in- and outdoor, textiles, furniture, lighting,… that can match with our style.
- Which brands will you make sure to visit and why?
Mabel Muijres: I like the ethic chic section . Where countries represent their locally made products.
Sylvie Louagie: Of course, we like to see what Belgian designers are doing for in- and outdoor: Atelier Vierkant, Ethnicraft, Papilio, Dirk Cousaert, Nautic, Tribu, When objects work, Zangra, Zee, and so many others. We are also looking for some new brands to introduce in our interior/exterior projects. Peter (Peter Bartholomeüs) and I are building a new designing-team. As you know, he is interior architect, I’m a landschape/garden architect. Together, we offer all in projects.
